CLIPS aka BIMS (Brain Implant MechanismS)
Clipped: replaced former "chipped" ~ AKA: Bimmed.
Sub-categories:
- Clips
- MADs
- ELReDs
- Sub-Cutes (SCs)
- RFID's (Arfids)
By 2068 Clipping has gone into general usage as a stand in for SC, RFID, Sub-Cute, or Exterior-Location Reporter Device -- Elred.
Clips are punched into Convicts' ears, buttocks and scrotums. They are usually a blend of three kinds of devices.
- RFIDs:
- that give GPS location.
- ELReDs:
- that do the same but in a more sophisticated way.
- MADs (Mood Altering Devices):
- that are more sophisticated, and newer. These are normally placed near or in the brain and when activated can cause the wearer to
adopt pre-programmed character traits. Very popular for salespeople. Overuse can lead to drowsiness, or hyperactivity.
Super sophisticated types are very popular in Corporate Culture, where they are increasingly compulsory. They are used to increase work output, maintain morale and produce corporate loyalty. Overuse can produce "BIMkosis.."
US Military uses SCs, Elreds and MADs of various kinds too. All Top Secret.
FBI and other state organs employ a variety of SCs.
Mads, like Elreds and some SCs come in Passive and Active flavors.
Passives operate like RFIDs and require radio or microwave signals to begin transmission of information.
Actives, necessarily larger than Passives, contain tiny batteries, or sophisticated bio interfaces to allow energy take up from the human/animal host. Actives transmit either continuously or on programmed patterns.
So common are SCs in the culture, especially for Corporate Employees that handle valuable data, that a variety of ailments are known to be associated with their use.
- Implant fatigue:
- aka IF:
- A mysterious kind of depression. Most often associated with Active MADs, but also reported from wearers of two or more SCs with conflicting message patterns.
- Scraziness:
- A common problem with convicts fitted with ElectroDynamix RFIDs and SCs of the A35550 range and the XR-4526 series. Since these were widely used for ten years or so, this became a fairly common phenomenon. Features "voices" in the mind, "visions" and sometimes synthaesthesia.
- Scramble:
- aka Corporate Schizophrenia:
- Some Active MADs interfere with certain kinds of High Level SCs, producing inexplicable mental confusion, with some similarity to Schizophrenic psychosis. Removal of the MADs usually ends the problem.
- Splat:
- Malfunctioning MADs, Elreds and other SCs can sometimes explode. The result being a splatter of skin, blood and tissues.

THE WALLS
During the Emergency-- 2025-2040-- beginning 2029, the Walls were built on US borders.
The South Wall consisted of ditch, dirt levee, 12 to 18 foot high concrete slabs. In places it was 80 yards wide, with barbed wire entanglements, double ditches, and clear "field of fire" spaces monitored by robots programmed to shoot anything that moved. It was begun in August 2029 and completed in June 2033. It brought to an end the 50 year period of uncontrollable illegal immigration from Mexico.
The South wall was built by Military Construction Companies. 30,000 political prisoners were employed as forced labor for some parts of the work.
The North Wall consisted of wire, chain link fencing, ditches and earth levees. In places these were augmented with concrete and brick walls of varying heights. It ran right across the continent from the Bay of Fundy to the Straits of Juan de Fuca. It was begun in October 2029 and completed in July 2039. It brought to an end the open border with Canada that had existed since the founding of the USA.
Construction of the North wall was regarded from the beginning as a "punishment" project. 600,000 political prisoners were employed as forced labor. They were housed in camps and kept on a very reduced diet. 100,000 plus died in the terrible winter of 2031-2 in the Northern Camps.
The Alaska Wall -- though called for by legislation. The Alaska Wall was never funded and remained unbuilt.

PLEASURE MODELS
An outgrowth of the various cloning endeavors undertaken both by the US Military and a variety of commercial entities with an eye to organ replacements etc.
Pleasure Models were designed to be Sex Objects, pure and simple. They were cloned from tissue samples from long dead porn stars but their intelligence was deliberately lowered to leave them with IQs in the range of 80 or so. They were also designed with 10 year life spans and submissive attitudes with a strong desire to please.
The first and most successful model was the Pammy. Marketed by INdustro-Bio of Manila, the Pammy was cloned from tissues of an American sex celebrity from the turn of the century. Her body was in a frozen state, awaiting eventual revival. Her descendants agreed to allow INdustro-Bio access to cell cultures taken from her body.
The Pammy was blonde, 5 ft, 4 inches in height, 125 pounds weight, with blue eyes and enormous breasts. 38-26-36 torso measurements.
Pammys were an immediate hit, and though they were officially illegal, just about everywhere, they were also found just about everywhere.
The Pammy model was followed by the Arisha, cloned from a Senegalese pop singer named Tarikya Olosinge who received a royalty on every Arisha sold by INdustro-Bio.
Then came the Colleen, the Debbie and the Kamiko.
The David was the first and best selling Male Pleasure Model. The David was 6 ft, and weighed a perfect 175 pounds. Sensitive features with a strong chin and dark brown eyes, the David was cloned from a one time top level Male Model. The only difference was in the size of the David's penis, which measured nine inches before erection.
The primary early market was among older homosexual men, but soon enough a secondary market among women developed.
The David was followed by the Bruce and the Jun an asian model that was extraordinarily popular in Japan, with older women.
Long before that, INdustro-Bio had competition. Tekne Industrielle of Madagascar was an early contender. So was ARC of Paraguay. By 2060 there were a dozen companies in the business, all located in safe havens where Cloning remained legal, or where laws were simply not enforced.
Always a minor aspect of the Cloning business, which was primarily concerned with producing replacement organs for those who could afford the process, the production of Pleasure Models became the industry's Bad Poster Child and a favorite target of religious and moral zealots.
